On September 17, Indonesia announced the winners of six oil and gas working areas from the first 2026 licensing round, with combined three-year firm commitments of US$141.5 million and signature bonuses of US$1.6 million.

The awards cover Sapukala, Natuna D-Alpha, Bengara II, Pesut Mahakam, Puri and Rupat. Sapukala and Natuna D-Alpha were offered through the direct-offer mechanism, while the other four came from the regular tender of government-study areas.

Indonesia also launched its second 2026 licensing round alongside the award announcement, which we will look at separately.
