Australia M&A – BP to sell 5% interest in Browse to GS Energy
(Originally posted on June 2, 2026)
On Monday (1st June 2026), it was reported and confirmed that BP has agreed to sell a 5% interest in the Browse project to South Korea’s GS Energy. The transaction will reduce BP’s interest in Browse from 44.33% to 39.33%, with BP remaining the largest participant in the Woodside-operated joint venture.
Financial terms were not disclosed, and the transaction remains subject to regulatory and joint venture approvals.
The deal follows only a few weeks after INPEX announced that it had entered into an agreement to acquire PetroChina’s 10.67% interest in Browse. Woodside has said it will consider whether to exercise pre-emption rights over that transaction.
