Australia M&A – Osaka Gas to acquire 5% interest in Browse from bp

On 18th September, Osaka Gas announced that its newly established subsidiary, Osaka Gas Browse Pty Ltd, has agreed to acquire a 5% participating interest in the Browse project from bp.
The transaction value has not been disclosed. Completion is subject to approvals from the relevant regulatory authorities and Browse JV partners, together with other applicable conditions.
JOGMEC has approved equity financing of up to 50% of eligible project costs associated with the acquisition and subsequent development. Osaka Gas estimates that its 5% interest could provide approximately 550,000 tonnes per year of LNG if Browse is developed, with the majority expected to be imported into Japan.
